The deceased was identified as 76-year-old William Langford, who worked as a broadcast engineer for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He was of British descent. He had reportedly been staying at the Trident Hotel in Mumbai since March 24th. He was in Mumbai for the IPL.
The body was found in the hotel room the day after the match.
The tournament featured a match between the Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 29th. After the match, William returned to his hotel room. The next day, on March 30th, hotel staff attempted to contact his room, but received no response. Hotel staff then opened the door with a master key. Upon opening the door, they discovered William Langford's body lying on the floor. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
The police were informed of the incident. Marine Drive police arrived at the scene and began investigating. Currently, the case has been registered as an accidental death. The exact cause of death will be known only after the post-mortem report is received.
