The new Tata Punch Facelift Turbo Petrol and Maruti Fronx Turbo compete head-to-head in terms of power, features, and price. Let's find out which compact SUV might be the better choice for you.

Tough competition in compact SUVs
Tata Motors has created a stir in the compact SUV segment by launching a turbo petrol engine with the Punch Facelift. With 120 bhp, the Tata Punch Turbo has now become the most powerful small SUV in the segment. The Maruti Fronx Turbo, meanwhile, already exists in this segment and is known for its stylish looks and smooth drive. This begs the question: which of these two turbo petrol SUVs will be better for you?
Who is ahead in engine and performance?
The Tata Punch Facelift Turbo is powered by a 1.2-liter turbo petrol engine that produces 120 bhp and 170 Nm of torque. This engine is ideal for those who enjoy quick acceleration and a powerful drive. However, this SUV is currently only available with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The Maruti Fronx Turbo, on the other hand, is powered by a 1.0-liter turbo petrol engine that produces 100 bhp. Despite its lower power output, its biggest advantage is that it comes with the option of a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic, making city driving easier.
What is different in the features?
- Both cars are well-equipped with features. The Tata Punch Turbo comes with a sunroof, a 360-degree camera, a large touchscreen infotainment system, and several safety features. The Maruti Fronx Turbo, on the other hand, offers a heads-up display, a 360-degree camera, and a premium cabin experience. Both SUVs offer basic safety and comfort features.
Price and variant difference
- The Maruti Fronx Turbo comes with more variant options. Its starting price is around ₹8.9 lakh, while the top-end automatic turbo variant costs up to ₹11.9 lakh. The Tata Punch Turbo, on the other hand, is available in fewer variants, starting from ₹8.2 lakh and going up to ₹9.7 lakh, making it more affordable. If you want more power and the pleasure of manual driving, the Tata Punch Facelift Turbo is a great and affordable option. However, if you want an automatic gearbox and more variant options, the Maruti Fronx Turbo will be better for you. Ultimately, the choice depends on your driving needs and budget.
