Method of worshipping the Sun God

On Sunday morning, wake up during the Brahma Muhurta (time of the night) and take a bath. Lord Surya loves the colour red. Therefore, wear clean red clothes and prepare for the puja. After this, place a picture or idol of the Sun God at the place of worship.

One should offer water, red flowers, whole grains of rice, and red sandalwood paste in a copper pot and offer it to the Sun with devotion. Chanting the mantra "Om Ghrini Suryaya Namah" while offering the offering  brings special benefits. At the end of the puja, performing an aarti to the Sun God and listening to the fasting story is considered auspicious.

The right way to fast

Sunday fasts can be observed for 12, 30, or one year. The ritual is to eat a single meal of sattvic food on this day. Consuming milk, yoghurt, ghee, jaggery, and porridge is considered auspicious. Those observing the fast should abstain from salt throughout the day, especially after sunset.

Many people eat rice mixed with milk and jaggery on this day, which helps alleviate the effects of the Sun and provides energy to the body.
