Green Chili Storage Hack: Coriander and green chilies are almost daily staples in the kitchen. However, if they're not stored properly, they can wilt, dry out, or spoil within a few days. If you're forced to throw them away repeatedly, changing your storage method may be beneficial. A few simple tricks can help keep coriander and green chilies fresh for longer.
The right way to store coriander
If coriander is stored in the same plastic bag it came in, moisture will accumulate inside the bag, causing the leaves to rot within a few days. The easiest way to avoid this is to gently dry the coriander and store it in an airtight container. Place a dry paper towel at the bottom of the container to absorb any excess moisture. Then, arrange the coriander in a single layer, seal the container, and refrigerate it. This will keep the coriander green and fresh for longer.
Another method is to cut a small portion of the coriander stalk, place it in a glass filled with a little water, and loosely cover it with a plastic bag. This keeps the stalk moist and the leaves fresh for a longer period. However, this method requires changing the water every two to three days.
How to store green chillies
To keep green chilies fresh for a long time, first remove the stems. Then, wash them with turmeric-mixed water and then rinse them thoroughly with clean water. Dry them thoroughly with a cotton cloth, making sure they are free of any moisture. Then, place the chilies in a zip-lock bag and add two or three cloves of peeled garlic. Seal the bag and refrigerate it. This will prevent the chilies from drying out or shrinking too quickly.
In fact, the refrigerator reduces humidity in the air, causing items like green chilies and coriander to gradually lose their moisture. If they are left uncovered or contain water, they can spoil quickly. Therefore, it's crucial to thoroughly dry them before storing them and use the right container. By following these tricks, you can keep green chilies and coriander fresh for a long time.
