Chinnaswamy Stadium Stampede: The celebration of Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) first IPL victory turned very sad on Wednesday (June 04, 2025), when 11 people were killed while 33 others were injured in a stampede outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium. The incident happened when the fans were going to join the celebration of lifting the IPL 2025 trophy by the RCB team. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah gave full information on the matter in a press conference.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said, "11 people have died and 33 people have been injured in the stampede. This tragedy should not have happened. The government expresses deep sorrow over this incident. The government has announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the dead. The government will provide free treatment to the injured." During this, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar was also present with him.

'Will not do politics on the accident'

The Chief Minister further said, "I do not want to defend this incident. Our government will not do politics on this. I have ordered a magisterial inquiry and given 15 days' time. People also broke the gates of the stadium. There was a stampede. No one expected such a large crowd. The stadium has a capacity of only 35,000 people, but 2-3 lakh people came."

How many people have been confirmed dead?

Officials have confirmed that the bodies of two people are in Bowring Hospital and four others are in Vaidehi Hospital. Six people are being treated in the ICU of Vaidehi Hospital and three have been admitted to the ICU. The bodies of those admitted to Bowring Hospital include Divyanshi (13 years), Diya (26 years), Shravan (21 years), an unidentified girl, an unidentified 17-year-old teenager, an unidentified man. Bodies of Bhoomik (20 years), Sahana (19 years), a 20-year-old and an unidentified 35-year-old man are being treated at Vaidehi Hospital, while 12 injured are being treated. Chinmayi (19 years), who was brought to Manipal Hospital, has died while six people are being treated.

The stampede occurred when thousands of fans were trying to enter the already packed stadium through different gates in a hurry. Police present at the spot rushed the injured to the nearby Bowring Hospital in ambulances. Police said that the ambulance was delayed in reaching the hospital due to congestion on the roads. In a separate incident, a fan fell and broke his leg while climbing a gate to jump into the stadium.
