SSC to Implement Aadhaar-Based Biometric Verification for Exams from May 2025

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has announced a major change in the examination process: Aadhaar-based biometric authentication will be implemented for all its recruitment exams starting from May 2025. This move is aimed at simplifying the process and enhancing security during exams.

How Will Aadhaar Authentication Work?

As per the official notification, candidates will need to authenticate their identity using their Aadhaar during the online registration process, while filling out their application forms, and at the examination centre on the exam day. The Aadhaar authentication process is voluntary and will help prevent impersonation and fraud, ensuring that the right candidates appear for the recruitment tests.

Aadhaar, a 12-digit identification number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), will serve as a secure method to verify candidates’ identity using their biometric and demographic data.

Why is Aadhaar-Based Verification Being Introduced?

The introduction of this new verification system is designed to improve the integrity of the exam process. It will prevent candidates from misrepresenting their identities or using fraudulent methods to appear for SSC exams. By linking biometric data with Aadhaar, the Commission aims to streamline the process and ensure transparency.

Aadhaar Verification: Voluntary Yet Effective

Though the authentication is voluntary, the Union Personnel Ministry issued a notification back in September 2024, allowing SSC to proceed with Aadhaar-based verification. This follows a similar move by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in August 2024, which implemented Aadhaar authentication for its exams. Both bodies hope that this new approach will help in better regulating the recruitment process.

What Else is New in Recruitment Exams?

In line with modernizing recruitment methods, the UPSC has also introduced facial recognition technology and AI-powered CCTV surveillance to prevent cheating and impersonation during exams. These initiatives reflect a growing trend to leverage technology to maintain exam integrity.

Upcoming SSC Exams

The SSC conducts a large number of exams for various government job recruitments. These exams are crucial for thousands of aspirants across the country, and the new authentication method is expected to boost trust and reliability in the recruitment process.
