7 hardcore Naxalites killed in encounter

Security forces on the border between Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh have once again achieved a major success against Naxalites. In a fierce half-hour encounter between police and Naxalites in the forests of Gimvalsa, under the Maredumilli police station area, security forces killed seven hardcore Naxalites. The killed Naxalites included several Maoists carrying high bounties.

The most prominent among the slain Naxalites is Meturu Joga Rao, alias Tek Shankar. He was a member of the Maoist organisation's Special Zonal Committee and carried a bounty of ₹40 lakh on his head. This is being considered a major achievement for the police.

Security forces also killed Sito, alias Jyoti, in the encounter. She was a DVCM member and carried a bounty of ₹8 lakh. Several other Naxalites, also carrying hefty bounties, were also killed.

Success achieved through a continuous search operation

According to the police, a significant Naxalite movement was observed in this area over the past two days. On Tuesday, there was also an encounter with a team led by the dreaded Naxalite Madvi Hidma. Consequently, security forces launched a large-scale search operation in the area, which led to another encounter between 6:30 and 7:00 a.m. today.

8 weapons, 2 AK-47s recovered in the encounter

Police recovered a total of eight weapons, including two AK-47s, from the scene. Police teams are still conducting searches in the area to rule out the possibility of any other Naxalites hiding there.

Bastar IG Sundarraj P. stated that the ongoing operations in Chhattisgarh are weakening the Naxalites. Consequently, many Naxalites are now attempting to cross the state border and flee to Andhra Pradesh. Andhra Pradesh police have also intensified their anti-Naxal operations, leading to frequent clashes along the border between the two states.
