Central government employees to receive salary and pension in advance on September 25 as per CGA order. Salary will be credited on September 25 this month. Learn the real reason behind this government decision.

Salary will come before the bank strike.

Central government employees' salaries and pensions are credited to their accounts on the last working day of the month. This means that if the last day of the month falls on Saturday, Sunday, or a bank holiday, salaries are credited the day before, i.e., on the last working day of the month. However, this time, salaries will be credited much earlier, in advance, on September 25th. The government has taken this decision abruptly.

Why will the salary come earlier?

The Finance Ministry has advised all departments and ministries to pay salaries for the month of September in advance on September 25th, in view of the three-day bank strike called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU). The UFBU, which represents 90% of banking sector employees, has announced a strike from September 28th to 30th, 2026.

The strike coincides with the half-yearly closing of banks on September 30. In view of the proposed three-day nationwide bank strike from September 28-30, 2026, an office memorandum issued by the Controller General of Accounts under the Ministry of Finance stated, "The government has decided that the salaries and pensions of all central government employees for the month of September 2026 will be disbursed by central government offices (including defence, postal and telecommunications) on September 25, 2026 (Friday)."

Will be adjusted in October salary

The government has stated that this amount received on September 25th will be considered an advance payment. At the end of the month, when the final calculation of the total salary and allowances is made, any increase or decrease in an employee's salary will be adjusted in the following month's salary, October. This means that if any new allowance, arrears, or overtime payment is accrued between September 26th and 30th, which should have been added to your September salary, that outstanding amount will be added to your October salary.

Who will benefit?

  • All central government employees will get the benefit, including employees of Defence, Postal and Telecommunications departments.
  • The wages of industrial workers under the Central Government will also be credited on the 25th.
  • The pension of all retired central employees will also be transferred on the 25th through banks and the Pay and Accounts Office (PAO).
