T20 has been the most popular format of cricket for the past two decades. Today, there's a league being played almost every month around the world. India has produced some formidable batsmen, but the fastest century for India in T20 International cricket isn't held by a formidable batsman like Vaibhav Suryavanshi or Abhishek Sharma. That record belongs to Rohit Sharma, who scored a century in 35 balls.

So far, only two batsmen have reached 100 runs in less than 40 balls in T20 International cricket. Rohit Sharma and Abhishek Sharma have achieved this feat. Sanju Samson, meanwhile, has scored a century in 40 balls for Team India.

Rohit Sharma has held the record for the fastest century for India in T20Is for the past nine years. He reached the century in 35 balls against Sri Lanka in 2017. When taking into account the figures for Full Member countries, this is the third-fastest century in the world. Only Sikandar Raza (33 balls) and Finn Allen (33 balls) have scored centuries faster than Rohit.

In that 2017 match against Sri Lanka, Rohit Sharma scored 118 runs off 43 balls. His innings included 12 fours and 10 sixes. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul shared a historic opening partnership of 165 runs in 12.4 overs. This remains India's fastest century in T20Is.

Abhishek Sharma came closest.

In the last nine years, only Abhishek Sharma has come closest to breaking this record. He reached a century in 37 balls against England in 2025. In that match, Abhishek scored 135 runs in 54 balls, including seven fours and 13 sixes. This was the highest individual innings for Team India in T20 cricket, and Abhishek still holds the record.

Sanju Samson scored a century in 40 balls. Tilak Varma scored a century in 41 balls, and Ishan Kishan in 42. Other Indian batsmen, including Suryakumar Yadav and KL Rahul, have scored centuries in fewer than 50 balls, but Rohit Sharma's record remains unbroken.
