Keep in mind the auspicious time- Do not tie rakhi at any time on the day of Rakshabandhan, rather it is advisable to tie rakhi on brother's wrist only during the auspicious time. The auspicious time to tie rakhi on Rakshabandhan (Rakhi Bandhne ka Muhurat) will be from 05:47 am to 01:24 pm on August 9.

Keep these things in the thali (Rakshabandhan Thali)- Prepare the thali well before tying the rakhi. Make sure that the puja thali must have things like Akshat, lamp, ghee, sweets, Rakhi, coconut, roli and water etc. Without these things, the Rakshabandhan thali is considered incomplete.

Keep in mind Bhadra and Rahukaal- On the day of Rakshabandhan, one should avoid tying Rakhi to the brother during Rahukaal and Bhadrakaal. Both these Muhurtas are considered inauspicious for tying Rakhi. Let us tell you that this year Bhadra will not have a shadow on Rakshabandhan. But on 9th August, there is Rahukaal from 09:00 am to 10:30 am.

Keep the direction in mind- While tying the rakhi, keep the right direction in mind. Rakhi should not be tied facing the south direction. According to Vastu and scriptures, facing the east or north direction is considered auspicious for tying the rakhi.

Do not use this color- Black color is considered inauspicious in Hinduism. In Vastu Shastra, it is associated with negativity. Therefore, on the day of Raksha Bandhan, brothers and sisters should not wear black clothes nor tie a black Rakhi on the brother's wrist.
