Rajasthan Weather Update: Unseasonal Rain and Hailstorm Bring Relief but Damage Crops

Rajasthan recently witnessed a sudden change in weather, bringing unexpected rainfall and hailstorms in several districts. While the showers provided temporary relief from the rising heat, they also caused significant damage to standing crops, adding to farmers' concerns.

Heavy Rainfall and Hailstorm in Several Districts

Unseasonal rain and hailstorms were reported in Jaipur’s rural areas, as well as in Hanumangarh, Alwar, Churu, Karauli, and Sikar districts. According to the Meteorological Department, Churu recorded 28 mm of rainfall, followed by 18 mm in Jhunjhunu’s Chirawa, 14 mm in Malsisar, 10 mm in Tijara, 9 mm in Pilani, and 6.6 mm in Bikaner.

Impact on Agriculture and Farmers

The unexpected hailstorm and heavy rain have severely impacted the rabi crops, including wheat, chickpeas, and mustard. Farmers are reporting extensive damage due to the strong winds and hail, which have flattened and destroyed crops, potentially affecting their yield and income.

Government Response and Relief Measures

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has directed district collectors to assess the extent of the crop damage and submit a report at the earliest. The state government has assured farmers of necessary assistance and compensation to mitigate their losses.

Weather Forecast for the Coming Days

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), certain areas of Rajasthan may continue to experience strong winds, thunderstorms, and light to moderate rainfall in the coming days. Farmers have been advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to safeguard their crops.

While the rainfall has brought a temporary respite from the rising summer temperatures, its adverse impact on agriculture highlights the vulnerability of farmers to sudden weather changes. The government’s response and relief efforts will be crucial in helping them recover from these unexpected losses.
