A shocking case has come to light from Bharatpur, Rajasthan, where a circle inspector (CI) has been accused of raping a woman, misleading her with a promise of marriage, and later framing her and her family in a false case after backing out from the commitment. The incident has stirred strong reactions, and an investigation is now underway.
Victim's Testimony
The woman, a resident of Aravali Vihar in Alwar, alleged that she came in contact with CI Mahendra Singh Rathi in 2022 when he was posted as the station officer in Kumher, Bharatpur. She was going through a legal dispute with her husband, and it was during this period that Rathi allegedly took her number and began frequent communication.
According to the victim:
- One day after a court hearing, Rathi offered to drop her at the bus stand.
- Instead, he took her to his government quarters, where he allegedly raped her.
- After the incident, he said, "I like you, I want to marry you", and convinced her of his intentions.
Symbolic Wedding at a Temple
The FIR details how Mahendra took the woman to Radha Rani Temple in Barsana. There, in a symbolic act of marriage:
- He rubbed his thumb against a stone and filled her maang (forehead parting) with blood, a traditional gesture of marriage in Hindu culture.
- He later visited her house, where he got formally engaged to her.
Continuing Exploitation and Betrayal
- The woman claims that Mahendra continued physical relations, under the pretense of them being married.
- At one point, when she resisted, he allegedly locked her and her sister in a room and raped her again.
- In 2024, Mahendra refused to marry her.
- When she confronted him, he allegedly filed a false case against her, her sister, and her brother — leading to their arrest and jail time.
She further claims that another police officer, CI Pawan Choubey, supported Mahendra in this, and it took great effort for the family to secure bail.
Current Status
- The victim has now filed a formal complaint, and a case has been registered.
- Investigations are underway to examine the serious allegations of rape, deceit, abuse of power, and misuse of law enforcement.
Public Outrage
The case has raised serious concerns about:
- Misuse of authority by police personnel.
- The vulnerability of women in disputes seeking legal help.
- The need for immediate action and protection for survivors of such crimes.
Authorities are under pressure to ensure a fair and transparent investigation, and the survivor has demanded that Mahendra Singh Rathi be punished for his actions.
