Paush Amavasya 2025: Paush Amavasya falls on December 19, 2025. On this day, there is a tradition of performing puja and prayers, charity, and offering incense and meditation to the ancestors. According to the Garuda Purana, performing auspicious acts like tarpan (offerings) on Amavasya brings peace to the ancestors, and with their blessings, happiness and prosperity prevail in the family.

This Amavasya is also special because this month is called Chhota Pitru Paksha and according to the Puranas, the donations and offerings made to the ancestors on the Amavasya of Pitru Paksha provide auspicious results for seven births.

What to do on Paush Amavasya

• On this Amavasya, take a bath in a holy river and after the bath, do charity on the river bank.
• While offering arghya to the Sun in a copper pot, one should chant the mantra Om Suryaya Namah.
• The month of Paush is called Chota Pitru Paksha and the donation and offering made to the ancestors on the new moon day of this month gives auspicious results for 7 births.
• Provide food to the needy. Donate blankets, warm clothes, etc.
• Donate money for the care of cows in a cowshed and feed the cows green grass.
• Keep food and water for birds on the roof of the house or any other public place.
