What is the matter?

A worm was removed from the eyes of a 35-year-old man. This work was done by the skilled team of AIIMS Bhopal. The person complained that he was having a lot of pain in his eyes for the past few days. His eyesight was also getting weak. His eyes were getting red frequently, due to which he always felt burning sensation in his eyes. For this, he consulted many doctors, doctors gave him steroids, eye drops and tablets. But its effect lasts only for some time. With time, the person's problems started increasing and his eyesight became very weak, after which he reached AIIMS Bhopal. 

How was the treatment done?

Doctors at Bhopal AIIMS examined the person's condition very thoroughly. In this, they found that there was a live parasite worm about 1 inch long in the person's eyes. This worm was in the vitreous gel of the person's eye. According to AIIMS doctors, this was a very unusual condition, only 3-4 such cases have been reported so far in the whole world. This operation was done under the guidance of Dr. Samendra Karkur, Chief Retina Surgeon of Bhopal AIIMS. In this surgery, an attempt was made to remove the worm without damaging the surrounding delicate retinal structures. During this, the worm also tried to escape, due to which the surgery became even more difficult. However, doctors successfully removed the worm from the eyes using vitreo-retina surgery technique. 

How did the worm reach the body

This type of parasitic worms enter the body by consuming raw or undercooked meat. These worms can enter the body through the skin, brain and eyes. When this happens, many health problems arise. Doctors of AIIMS Bhopal said that they have seen such a case for the first time in their 15 years of career. The patient's condition is normal after the operation. The patient will be kept under observation for a few days.
