But when a company hands them a layoff letter early in the morning, it's natural to be shocked. Something similar has happened to workers at the global tech company Oracle.
Yesterday, September 14th, at 6 a.m., the company sent an email stating, "Today is your last day at work." The email reportedly begins with this line. It further states, "We are sharing some difficult news regarding your position." Obviously, receiving this email from the company early in the morning will be a shock to employees.
Why did you suddenly lose your job?
The email stated that their positions were being eliminated as part of a major organizational change. The company did not provide a specific reason, citing business changes as necessary for the current period. The email stated, "After careful consideration of Oracle's current business needs, we have decided to eliminate your position as part of a major organizational change, making today your last working day."
What next for laid-off employees?
It is reported that employees affected by these layoffs will be eligible for a severance package based on the terms of Oracle's severance plan. It also states that employees will receive a separate email from DocuSign to their Oracle email address, detailing compensation and their last working day.
In the digital form sent via DocuSign, employees will be required to provide their personal email address in the section titled "Immediate Action Required" to receive further information regarding the transition, including FAQs and separation documents. Since office email will be discontinued, employees will be required to immediately provide their personal email address to the company for further communication.
