India Post Payments Bank: Public sector India Post Payments Bank will provide digital life certificate services to EPFO pensioners at their doorstep. A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the two organizations in this regard. Under this collaboration, India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) will leverage its extensive network of over 1.65 lakh post offices and 300,000 postal service providers (postmen and Gramin Dak Sevaks) equipped with banking equipment.
These devices are used for the digital process of facial recognition technology and 'fingerprint' biometric verification to help EPFO pensioners submit their digital life certificate.
Information about the agreement
India Post Payments Bank has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) to provide doorstep digital life certificate services to its pensioners under the Employees' Pension Scheme, 1995. Digital Life Certificate (DLC) allows pensioners to complete verification online instead of visiting the office every year. This eliminates the need to visit bank branches or EPFO offices to submit traditional paper-based certificates.
According to a statement, the EPFO will bear the entire cost of issuing digital life certificates, making the service free for its pensioners. India Post Payments Bank launched the Digital Life Certificate Doorstep Service in 2020, enabling pensioners to generate life certificates using Aadhaar-enabled biometric authentication to reduce the time required for issuing life certificates.
"This partnership with EPFO reaffirms IPPB's mission to bring essential financial and civic services to every household in India," Viswesvaran said. "With our technology-enabled postal network and reliable last-mile access, EPFO pensioners will now be able to submit their life certificates with ease."
According to the statement, to avail this service, EPFO pensioners will have to contact their postman or Gramin Dak Sevak or visit their nearest post office, provide their Aadhaar number and pension details for Aadhaar-linked face authentication or fingerprint biometric verification.
