New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner disappointed with the loss against India.

In the first T20I against India, New Zealand lost despite scoring 225 runs. At the end of their innings, the Win Predictor showed a 72 percent chance of victory. Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma turned the tables by scoring 93 runs in the first six overs, but the Kiwis bounced back. When Ishan Kishan was dismissed, New Zealand's chances of victory were back to 70 percent. However, the Kiwis couldn't defend 225 runs. India won the match with two balls to spare. New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner looked disappointed after the defeat. Find out who he blamed for the loss.

After the defeat in the first T20I at Hagley Oval in Christchurch, Kiwi captain Mitchell Santner said, "They (India) put pressure on us. We knew they would do that and once again they scored a lot of runs in the powerplay. Maybe we didn't perform our best. We need to improve on a few things, but I think we know how the ball behaves, so we can slow them down. I think we kept them tied down well in the middle overs and the match became very tight. Both teams have some things to improve on. This match could have gone either way."

When asked where New Zealand could improve, Santner pointed to extra runs and missed fielding opportunities. "The extra runs conceded early on could be a factor. Although we were quite good at fielding, catching isn't easy here. We could have taken a few more chances, and there's room for improvement in the death overs as well. However, the powerplay is always a challenge. We need to find a way to slow them down. Maybe instead of conceding 100 runs in the powerplay, we can limit them to 80," the Kiwi captain said.
