New Aadhaar App Guide: How to Update Mobile Number and Address Online Using UIDAI’s Latest Aadhaar Application

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a fully functional version of its new Aadhaar mobile application, making it easier for citizens to manage Aadhaar-related services directly from their smartphones. The updated app allows users to perform several tasks digitally, including updating their registered mobile number and residential address, without visiting an Aadhaar service centre.

Earlier versions of the app provided only limited functionality. However, the latest version now offers a broader range of Aadhaar services designed to improve user convenience while maintaining strong security measures.

One of the biggest advantages of the new Aadhaar app is that it allows individuals to modify key details such as their mobile number and address using OTP verification and biometric authentication, saving users time and effort.

What Is the New Aadhaar App?

The newly launched Aadhaar app is a secure digital platform developed by UIDAI that enables users to store and manage Aadhaar information electronically. It works similarly to the older mAadhaar application, but includes additional features and improved security mechanisms.

With this application, Aadhaar holders can:

  • Access Aadhaar-linked services digitally
  • Update personal details like mobile number and address
  • Securely store Aadhaar information on their device
  • Avoid visiting Aadhaar enrolment centres for minor updates

The app is available for both Android and iOS smartphones and can be downloaded from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

How to Update Mobile Number Using the Aadhaar App

A major feature introduced in the new Aadhaar application is the ability to change the mobile number linked to Aadhaar. This process requires OTP verification and biometric authentication for security.

Steps to Update Your Aadhaar Mobile Number

  1. Download and install the new Aadhaar app from the Play Store or App Store.
  2. Open the application and log in using your Aadhaar number.
  3. Complete the biometric verification process to access the services.
  4. Navigate to the Services section on the home screen.
  5. Select the Mobile Number Update option.
  6. Read the instructions and tap Continue.
  7. Enter your new mobile number.
  8. Verify the number using the OTP sent to your phone.
  9. Complete the Face Authentication process for identity verification.
  10. Pay the processing fee of ₹75 to submit the request.

Once the request is submitted successfully, UIDAI generally processes the update within approximately 15 days.

How to Update Aadhaar Address Using the App

The Aadhaar app also provides a simple way to update the address associated with your Aadhaar card. Users can complete this process through two methods.

Method 1: Using Valid Address Proof

You can update your address by submitting an approved document that contains your current residential address. Accepted documents include:

  • Voter ID card
  • Electricity bill
  • Water bill
  • Gas connection bill
  • Bank statement
  • Indian passport
  • Postpaid mobile bill

Steps to Update Address

  1. Log in to the Aadhaar app.
  2. Go to the Services section.
  3. Select Address Update.
  4. Upload the required address proof document.
  5. Verify the details shown in the application.
  6. Complete the Face Authentication verification.
  7. Pay the ₹75 processing fee to submit the request.

Method 2: Using a Family Member’s Aadhaar

If you do not have address proof in your own name, you can also update your Aadhaar address using a family member’s Aadhaar details.

In this case:

  1. Enter the Aadhaar details of the family member whose address will be used.
  2. Complete biometric verification and payment.
  3. The family member will receive a notification and SMS request for approval.
  4. Once they approve the request through their Aadhaar app, the update process begins.

UIDAI states that address updates may take up to 15 days to reflect in the Aadhaar database.

Fee and Processing Time

UIDAI charges a processing fee of ₹75 for updating either the mobile number or address using the Aadhaar app. After submitting the request, users usually receive confirmation notifications via SMS and the app.

The update generally takes up to 15 days to be completed in the official Aadhaar database.

Why the New Aadhaar App Is Important

The launch of the upgraded Aadhaar application is part of the government’s efforts to expand digital public services. By enabling citizens to update their details online, UIDAI aims to reduce crowding at Aadhaar centres and provide a faster, more convenient user experience.

With the increasing role of Aadhaar in banking, government services, and identity verification, having updated details in the Aadhaar database has become extremely important.
