NCW Condemns Abusive Comments on Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri’s Daughter Amid Ceasefire Row

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has strongly condemned the abusive trolling and privacy violations targeted at Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and his daughter following the recent India-Pakistan ceasefire announcement.

What Happened?

After India and Pakistan announced a ceasefire on May 10 at 5 PM, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri became a target of online abuse. Social media users launched a series of personal and offensive attacks on him, and inappropriate comments were made about his daughter. Worse still, her personal contact details were reportedly leaked online.

In response to this, Misri locked down his X (formerly Twitter) account, limiting comments and visibility to verified users only.

NCW Issues Strong Statement

Reacting sharply, the National Commission for Women issued a statement:

“The National Commission for Women strongly condemns the reprehensible online abuse directed at the family of India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, especially his daughter. Sharing personal contact details is a gross violation of privacy and endangers safety.”

The NCW called such actions morally indefensible, especially when directed at family members of public servants who hold high offices. They urged the public to exercise restraint and civility in discourse.

Broader Condemnation and Concern

Following the backlash, politicians, diplomats, and civil society members have condemned the targeting of Misri's family, calling it a new low in online trolling. Many emphasized that policy disagreements should not spill over into personal attacks, particularly on family members who are not public figures.

Why It Matters

This incident underscores the increasing toxicity of online political discourse, where even the families of civil servants are not spared. It also raises serious questions about digital safety, accountability, and the need for tougher enforcement of online harassment laws in India.
