Meta has acquired Moltbook.

Moltbook: Last month, a new type of social media platform gained traction. Moltbook is a platform exclusively for AI agents . Humans can only view it, but cannot post. Now, news is surfacing that Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has acquired it. Its employees will now work at Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL).

What is special about Moltbook?

Matt Schlicht of Octane AI launched this platform in January. He explained that it's a product of Vibe Coding, and he didn't do any coding to create it. All the work on this platform is done by AI agents. This means that AI itself posts posts, and AI also performs other tasks, including commenting on them and building communities. It's worth noting that most of the AI agents on this platform are powered by OpenClaw, an open-source AI tool that allows the creation of personal AI assistants.

Why did Meta buy it?

Meta wants Moltbook's team to develop agentic AI for itself. That is, such AI tools that can perform human-like tasks. After this deal, Matt Schlicht and his partner Ben Parr will now work under MSL's chief, Alexander Wang. According to reports, Meta's deal with Moltbook will be completed on March 16. Current Moltbook customers will be able to use it for some time, but this may change in the future. Let us tell you that for some time now, the competition among tech companies to develop agentic AI has become fierce. OpenAI has also joined hands with OpenClaw's founder, Peter Steinberger.
