In a chilling case of greed and betrayal, a man allegedly murdered his paralyzed brother to claim a hefty insurance amount of ₹95 lakh. The accused, identified as Naveen, tried to pass off the murder as a road accident, but suspicions raised by the insurance company eventually exposed the conspiracy.
The incident took place on 6 July last year, but the shocking details have only now come to light following a police investigation.
Victim Was Paralyzed and Dependent
According to Sambhal Superintendent of Police Krishna Kumar Bishnoi, the victim, Sanjay, was paralyzed and dependent on his brother for care. On July 6, Naveen reported to the police that Sanjay had been fatally hit by an unknown vehicle while traveling in an e-rickshaw to the hospital.
Initially, the case was registered as an accident, and when the police found no leads, a final report was submitted.
Insurance Claim Triggers Investigation
Soon after Sanjay's death, Naveen filed an insurance claim worth ₹95 lakh, citing himself as the nominee. He even managed to receive ₹20 lakh from the insurance company. However, since the accident occurred within a year of the policy being issued, the insurer found the situation suspicious and alerted the police.
A fresh investigation was launched, and it revealed disturbing facts that led to the arrest of Naveen and his two associates – Raju, a friend, and Akhilesh, a local lawyer from Islam Nagar.
Premeditated Murder for Profit
During police interrogation, Naveen confessed to hatching a plot to eliminate his brother. He claimed that caring for his ailing brother had become burdensome and, driven by greed, he took out a large insurance policy in Sanjay's name, making himself the sole beneficiary.
On the fateful day, under the pretense of taking his brother to the hospital, Naveen and his accomplices arranged for an e-rickshaw ride. During the trip, Naveen pushed Sanjay from the vehicle, causing fatal injuries. He later fabricated a story about a hit-and-run incident to mislead the authorities.
All Accused Sent to Jail
After verifying the evidence and statements, the police confirmed the murder and arrested all three accused. They have since been sent to judicial custody.
Authorities say this case is a grim reminder of how far some individuals are willing to go for money, even if it means betraying and killing their own family.
