Where is the temple of Mata Mundeshwari?
A large number of people visit the Mundeshwari Temple daily to visit the Mother Goddess. This temple is located on the Pavra Hill in the Bhagwanpur block of Kaimur district.
According to legend, this temple was discovered in 635 BC. The exact date and who built the temple is unknown.
The practice of non-violent sacrifice in the temple
The idol of Goddess Mundeshwari in the form of Varaha is located on the eastern side of the sanctum sanctorum of the Maa Mundeshwari Temple. A four-faced idol of Lord Shiva is located in the center of the temple. According to locals, the color of this idol changes two to three times a day.
In this temple, goats are sacrificed non-violently, meaning they are offered without bloodshed. Devotees bring goats as a vow. The temple priests perform the non-violent sacrifice by sedating the goat with rice grains and flowers and chanting mantras.
Although the practice of animal sacrifice has been completely banned in India, the offering to the Mother Goddess in the temple is made with tandula, a rice dish cooked in pure ghee.
Devotees from all over the country and abroad come to this temple to have darshan of Mother Mundeshwari. One can see her after climbing 525 steps.
