Reduced use of LPG
According to a recent report by the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC), LPG consumption in India declined by 8% in the first six months of 2026. The report states that India consumed approximately 14.7 million tons of LPG between January and June 2026, compared to 15.9 million tons during the same period last year. This indicates that LPG is being used less.
The government stated that the decline in LPG consumption was due to disruptions in the supply chain. India imports approximately 60% of its needs, and approximately 90% of this comes from the Gulf countries of West Asia, which reach India through the Strait of Hormuz. The war between the US and Iran has led to a blockade of this route, disrupting supply.
