World Sparrow Day 2023: Every year March 20 is celebrated as Sparrow Day across the world. There is a continuous decrease in the number of sparrow birds in India and around the world. The purpose of celebrating World Sparrow Day is to make people aware of the conservation of sparrows. The sparrow is one of the most common and oldest bird species on Earth. The vanishing species and decreasing population of Gauraiya is a matter of great concern. In such a situation, thinking about celebrating this day is a commendable step for the protection and conservation of sparrows and other disappearing birds.
How did World Sparrow Day begin?
World Sparrow Day is celebrated every year on 20 March in association with Nature Forever Society (India) and Eco-Sys Action Foundation (France). It was started by Mohammad Dilawar, a resident of Nashik, by establishing the 'Nature Forever Society (NFS) to help the endangered species of Gauraiya bird. Nature Forever Society planned to celebrate 'World Sparrow Day' on 20 March every year. For the first time, this day was celebrated in the year 2010.
Why is World Sparrow Day celebrated?
The purpose of celebrating World Sparrow Day is to save the endangered species of sparrow bird. Sparrow bird has reached the verge of extinction due to the indiscriminate felling of trees, modern urbanization, and ever-increasing pollution. There was a time when the chirping of sparrows used to wake people from sleep, but now it is not like that. It is a bird that likes to be around humans. The steady decline in the number of sparrows is a warning that pollution and radiation are affecting nature and humans. So there is a need to work in this direction.
