When you are busy typing and texting on your smartphone, have you ever wondered how it all started? Do you know what was the world's first text message? Written 31 years ago on December 3, 1992, this simple but happy message was 'Merry Christmas'. Neil Papworth wrote a 15-character message through Vodafone's network and it was received by Richard Jarvis, a Vodafone employee at the Christmas party.

It was then that 22-year-old British programmer Neil Papworth sent the first Short Message Service (SMS) from a computer, and thus modern messaging began. "I had no idea in 2017 that texting would become so popular that millions of people would use emoji and messaging apps," said Neil Papworth, 22, as reported by the Daily Mail.

World's first SMS sold as NFT

British telecom company Vodafone auctioned SMS as NFT last year. The historical text was recreated as an NFT. It was a digital receipt. The text messages were auctioned off by an auctioneer in Paris, the Daily Mail reported. The buyer of this message is the sole owner of a detailed and unique replica of the original communication protocol of the message. The buyer paid through the Ether cryptocurrency.
