Mental health disorders are a rapidly growing problem worldwide, with everyone from children to adults at risk. The researchers point out that many risk factors have a serious negative impact on mental health, and all people should continue to take measures to keep their minds healthy and calm. Researchers said that cases of mental illness are increasing with time, and the risk may become even higher in the coming years.
World Mental Health Day is celebrated every year on 10 October to remove social stigma about mental health and keep the mind healthy. Psychiatrists say all people need to be protected from its risk factors from an early age. In a recent study, scientists say that as the problem of psychiatry is increasing globally, it is feared that by the age of 75, 50 percent of the world's population may be at risk of mental health disorders.
One in two people at risk
Researchers found that half the global population is at risk for mental health disorders by age 75. Based on the study, researchers from Queensland University and Harvard Medical School said that one in two people worldwide is at risk of a mental health disorder in their lifetime. Most of the people are facing the risk of stress and depression. The study has also found that its risk may also be gender-based.
What did the study find?
For this study, data from more than 150,000 adults from 29 countries was examined from 2001 to 2022. Research also found that mental health disorders are most commonly seen in childhood, adolescence, or young people. Researchers said that 15-year-olds are the youngest age group with mental health problems. The average age of mental health disorders is 19 for men and 20 for women. This risk is increasing with time.
Mental health problems in men and women
Researchers said, that when it comes to gender-based mental health problems, depression, social phobia, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are the major health disorders seen in women. Whereas the problems of alcohol abuse, depression, and social phobia are seen most in men. If these conditions are not taken care of, they increase the risk of serious health risks in the future.
How to take care of mental health
Health experts say that it is important for all people to take care of their mental health. For this, exercising regularly is very beneficial. A good diet and a good night's sleep are also important to maintain your mental health. Removing the stigma around mental health and providing timely treatment to the needy is important to reduce the risks of mental health.
