Why is World Earth Day celebrated only on 22 April?
Peace activist John McConnell first proposed the idea of Earth Day at a UNESCO conference in 1969. Initially, the purpose of celebrating this day was to maintain and respect peace on earth.
After this, the first Earth Day was celebrated in America on April 22, 1970. In the year 1990, Dennis Hayes planned to celebrate this day globally. About 141 countries participated in it.
Every year Earth Day is celebrated with a theme. This year the theme of Earth Day is 'Planet Vs Plastic'. Through this, the risks that human health is facing due to the increasing use of plastic. People have to be made aware of it. Apart from this, the attention of global organizations has to be drawn towards this to stop the rapidly increasing plastic pollution.
