Corona, which has been a serious health threat globally for the last three years, has not subsided yet. Many countries have seen a rapid increase in cases in the last month due to variants such as Omicron's Eris (EG.5.1) and Pirola (BA.2.86). Due to new variants, the number of infected and even deaths in the hospital is also seen increasing. Health experts advise all people to be alert about the risk of corona infection.

Meanwhile, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) scientists have alerted about increasing cases of a new infection in a recent report. Many parts of the United States have seen a rapid increase in cases of infection caused by a bacterium called Vibrio vulnificus, which has killed 13 people this year, CDC experts said. About 200 Americans are infected with Vibrio vulnificus each year, and about five of them die.

Health experts say all people need to keep trying to prevent this infection. Let us know about the risks caused by this bacteria and infection.

Know about Vibrio vulnificus infection
Vibrio vulnificus bacteria can cause fatal infections in humans. It causes skin lesions by eating raw or undercooked meat. Symptoms of infection develop rapidly and can cause fever, low blood pressure, and painful blisters. If you think you have Vibrio vulnificus infection, you should immediately seek expert advice, it can be serious and even fatal.

Health experts say infected people may need intensive care and if the infection progresses, amputation may be required.

What do CDC experts say?
V. vulnificus has a short incubation period and can cause necrotizing infections of the skin and tissues, CDC experts say, noting that infections are rising in some parts of the United States. The CDC said that extreme weather events such as floods, hurricanes and epidemics could be the reason for the increase in this infection.

The CDC says that the bacteria grows rapidly from May to October, and the risk of this infection increasing and making people sick has been seen in areas with marine environments.

Risk Factors for Vibrio Vulnificus
People with certain conditions are more likely to get Vibrio vulnificus infection when exposed to the bacteria. Health experts say, that if you have had liver diseases including cirrhosis, chronic kidney disease, or diabetes, or are suffering from any disease that weakens your immune system, then due to this you are at risk of infection and serious complications. The risk of developing the disease may be higher.

Some researchers have also found that men have a higher risk of infection and its risks due to this bacteria than women.

Keep trying to save
Doctors say, by following some simple care measures you can reduce the risk of infection. Reduce consumption of raw or undercooked meat, especially sea fish. Avoid contact with seawater and salt water if you have any wounds on your skin or have recently had a tattoo or surgery. People living near the sea are more at risk of getting this infection, such people are advised to take special precautions.
