Women sometimes have to face itching and burning sensation in the vagina. Apart from not maintaining vaginal hygiene, there can be many other reasons behind vaginal infection. The bacteria present inside the vagina work to clean it. But when there is an excess of bad bacteria in the vagina, the problem of vaginal infection occurs. During periods and PMS, women may face many problems. During these days, many women also feel itching and burning sensation in the vagina. This happens to many women every month before their periods. Causes of itching and burning sensation in the vagina before periods

  • Vaginal infection may be the reason behind itching and burning sensation in the vagina. It is also called a yeast infection.
  • Bacteria and yeast cells are present in a healthy vagina. But when the balance of bacteria and yeast in the vagina gets disturbed, these yeast (fungus) cells multiply and this can cause irritation, swelling and itching.
  • About 75 per cent of women have faced this infection at some time or the other.
  • Yeast infection in the vagina is quite common before periods.
  • These infections sometimes trouble women even during pregnancy.
  • The main reason for vaginal infection before periods is hormonal imbalance.
  • Yeast cells are present in the vagina along with healthy bacteria called Lactobacillus Acidophilus.
  • These prevent additional growth of fungi (Candida albicans).
  • When the vaginal environment cannot maintain a balance between yeast cells and healthy bacteria, vaginal infection can occur.

Other causes of vaginal infection

  • Menopause
  • Pregnancy
  • a heavy dose of antibiotics
  • Diabetes
  • Weakening of the immune system
  • Sexually transmitted disease

Symptoms of vaginal infection

  • Burning and itching sensation in the vagina
  • severe pain
  • increased white discharge
  • Redness and inflammation around the vagina
  • Pain in passing urine and having physical relations
