Every day lakhs of people travel by train. There are mainly two types of facilities for sitting during the journey in the train. Reserved and non-reserved seats. There are usually non-reserved seats in the general coach, while to travel in sleeper and AC bogie, seats have to be reserved in advance. While booking train tickets, you must have seen that the options of lower berth, upper berth, middle berth, side upper berth and side lower berth are given. While booking tickets, people have the option of which seat they would like to book.
Generally people avoid traveling on the middle berth. There is a rule of the railway behind this, due to which people do not show much interest in taking the middle berth. Let us know what are the rules of the railway related to the middle berth? Along with this, we will also know when the middle berth can be opened and at what time it has to be folded.
Sleeping and waking time on the middle berth
You cannot sleep or sit on the middle berth before or after a fixed time even if you want to. According to the rules of Indian Railways, any passenger who gets the middle berth can open the seat only at 10 pm and can use this seat till 6 am. That is, according to the rule, the passenger has to fold the seat at 6 am.
Let us tell you that from 10 pm to 6 am are called sleeping hours, while from 6 am to 10 pm are called non-sleeping hours. In non-sleeping hours, the passenger with the middle berth has to sit on the lower seat.
This problem occurs in the middle berth
In such a situation, if the passenger with the middle berth is tired and wants to sleep, then despite having a reservation, he has to make do by sitting in the train till 10 pm. If the passenger does not follow this rule of the railway, then the railway can take action against him.
