Online survey firm LocalCircles reported that nearly 76 percent of respondents claimed to have seen an increase in harassing calls or SMS based on their interactions with WhatsApp business accounts and their activity on Facebook or Instagram.

In a survey conducted by LocalCircles in India between February 1 and February 20, 95 percent of WhatsApp users indicated that they received one or more harassing messages every day, with 41 percent claiming they received them daily. Four or more such messages are received.

LocalCircles said that to understand whether users were experiencing this based on the privacy policy change and to gauge the magnitude of such cases, it asked respondents whether they were noticing an increase in unwanted commercial messages on WhatsApp. based on their interactions with WhatsApp Business and their activity on Facebook or Instagram.

Nearly three-quarters, or 76 percent, of the 12,215 WhatsApp users who responded to the question said they are seeing an increase in harassing or unwanted commercial messages based on their interactions with WhatsApp business accounts and their activity on Facebook/Instagram. The survey claims to have received over 51,000 responses from citizens located in 351 districts of India.
