Alcohol has been considered harmful to overall health in many ways. From liver diseases to many types of cancer, alcohol consumption has been cited as the main reason in studies. However, there is a common belief among people that if you drink alcohol in small quantities or occasionally, then it does not cause any harm. Is it so?

In a recent study related to this, scientists have broken many myths. Researchers said alcohol is harmful to our health in every way, even if it is consumed in small quantities.

Researchers said, even a small amount of alcohol is harmful to the body. Drinking alcohol even in small quantities can cause serious and life-threatening health problems.

Low amounts of alcohol are also harmful

In many earlier studies and reports, it was said that consuming alcohol in small quantities i.e. 20 grams per day for men and up to 10 grams per day for women is not very harmful. However, the report of this study states that even a low amount is not safe. Even a low amount of alcohol can increase the risk of diseases like cancer.

A study conducted on more than one lakh people in Britain has found that this can be a problem that increases the risk of cancer, for which all people need to be cautious.

What did the study find out?

For 12 years, research was done on 135,103 adults aged 60 and above regarding the problems caused by alcohol. Dr. Rosario Ortola, professor at Universidad Autonoma de Madrid and lead author of the research paper, says, even drinking less alcohol is enough to harm health. Alcohol starts increasing the risk of cancer from the first drop itself.

It is worth noting here that the current US dietary guidelines state that drinking less alcohol is not harmful. However, it is also worth noting that in the last few years, deaths due to excessive drinking in the United States have also increased by 30 percent.

Alcohol consumption is harmful

People have been alerted about the health problems caused by alcohol in some previous studies. The Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction issued a guideline stating that consuming alcohol in small quantities is not good for health.

According to the study, the risk of death has been seen to be higher in older adults who drink less alcohol. This can cause the risk of not only the liver but also heart disease, cancer, and other life-threatening health problems.
