If you are also troubled by your partner's snoring or their strange sleeping habits, then take a 'sleep divorce' from them. Don't panic, this divorce does not break relationships, but makes them stronger. Neha's married life is going on track. There is no discord, no fight. Still, Neha sleeps in a separate room at night instead of sleeping with her husband. One day, a friend who came to her house was surprised and asked the reason for this, because she thought that there was a fight. But Neha explained laughingly, "We did not have any fight, we just had a 'sleep divorce'." Neha's friend was hearing this term for the first time.

On hearing the word divorce, the image of separation between two people emerges in our mind, but there is no such thing as 'sleep divorce'. Sleeping separately simply means that your sleep needs do not match your partner's needs. There is nothing strange in this in relationships and it is normal. Neha sleeps in a separate room from her husband only so that she can sleep peacefully at night. This concept of sleeping in a separate bed or separate room away from the husband is called 'sleep divorce'.

Sumit, a resident of Bhopal, is an IT professional. He was not able to sleep at night due to his wife's continuous snoring, due to which his health was deteriorating. In this regard, he contacted a psychiatrist and requested him to give medicines to sleep peacefully at night, but the psychiatrist advised him to do a sleep divorce. Sumit talked to his wife and started sleeping in a separate room. Today he has overcome this problem.

It is difficult to say exactly when the term sleep divorce was used for the first time. But this term has been read in newspapers and magazines since 2013. This term has also emerged rapidly in many recent researches related to good sleep and health. Many experts associate good health with good sleep. They believe that sleep divorce not only strengthens relationships but also improves health.

Why the need to sleep separately?

Relationship experts have so far believed that sleeping together strengthens the marriage of husband and wife, so why the need to sleep separately? In fact, despite having a normal relationship with the spouse, sometimes sleeping on a separate bed is relaxing. The fatigue of the whole day's work comes down on one's bed. At this time we want peace. We want to sleep in our favorite posture, such as by folding the legs, spreading them, changing sides, and spreading out on the bed. But this can cause trouble to the partner, due to which we are unable to sleep properly. Due to this, either you are unable to sleep or you are unable to sleep soundly. This causes health and mental problems. Therefore, the need to sleep separately may be felt.

Why do women sleep less

In today's time, the responsibility of both home and outside has fallen on the shoulders of the woman. She wakes up early in the morning and finishes the household chores. Getting the children ready for school, making lunch for the husband, and getting ready for her office is generally considered her part of the work. Then even after returning from the office, she remains busy working till late at night. The result of this is that she can sleep for less hours. At the same time, the partner sleeping according to his choice, snoring or moving hands and legs while sleeping on the bed disturbs her sleep, due to which she is not able to sleep well.

The concept is old

The term sleep divorce may be new to us, but the concept of sleeping separately is not new to us. However, in joint families, after a certain age, the beds of the husband and wife are seen to be placed separately despite being in the same room, which may have different reasons. Also, in old times, in our social system, the bed of the men of the house, especially the elders, was placed outside and the bed of women and children was placed in the inner courtyard or room. This system can still be seen in villages. In cities, too, many working couples prefer to sleep separately so that they can sleep peacefully. Sometimes, a small house and the presence of children are also the reason for this.

It is important to have complete sleep
Incomplete sleep can spoil the whole day. Incomplete sleep means - being tired and irritable throughout the day, not being able to concentrate on work, completing work reluctantly, increasing the chances of mistakes and taking more time to complete tasks. In this way, our efficiency decreases. Due to fatigue and laziness, work is not completed on time. On the other hand, complete sleep at night keeps us fresh throughout the day, increases our efficiency, improves memory, helps in concentrate, and also keeps us away from depression. Doctors have always said that good sleep is essential for good health.
