The news of the pregnancy of Charan Kaur (58 years), mother of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala (late) is in the headlines these days. According to media reports, she may give birth to her second child in March. It is noteworthy that Sidhu Moosewala (28 years old) was shot dead in May 2022, after which the parents are looking for another child to increase the lineage. According to the report published in the English newspaper, Charan Kaur was conceived through in vitro fertilization (IVF).

Since this news came out, people have had many questions about IVF.

Can one become a mother even at the age of 60 and above? Can good results be obtained from IVF at this age? And what effect does pregnancy have on the body at the age of menopause? To know the answers to all these questions, we tried to understand these situations by contacting Dr. Deepti Gupta, a gynecologist at a hospital in Bhopal.

Know about IVF
In the report published in the English newspaper, Moosewala's uncle said, Charan Kaur is preparing to become a mother for the second time in March after conceiving through IVF. At present, she is under the supervision of experts and her and her child's health is fine.

Before understanding the complications of pregnancy with increasing age, you need to know what IVF is, which is being seen as a boon for women suffering from complications in pregnancy.

Doctors say that IVF is considered to be an effective method in case one is unable to get pregnant even after trying for at least one year. In this process, the woman's egg is fertilized with sperm in the laboratory and implanted in the uterus. How good its results will be depends on many factors like health and age of the woman.

Is pregnancy possible even at the age of 60?
Sidhu Moosewala's mother is 58 years old and pregnancy at this age has raised many questions in the minds of people. Is it possible to conceive even at the age of 60?

Regarding this, Dr. Deepti says, as per the rules, if the sum of the ages of husband and wife is less than 100 years, then IVF can be done. Most of the people who want to conceive through IVF after 50 may need donor eggs. For this, the eggs of a young woman are taken and fertilized in the laboratory.

The reason for doing this is that the quality of a woman's eggs decreases with age. In such a situation, pregnancy can be achieved even after the age of 50 by donating the eggs of a young woman and fertilizing them.

Pregnancy and its complications during menopause
Dr. Deepti says IVF is very popular all over the world but its success rate may decrease with increasing age. In the case of pregnancy at the age of menopause, there is a higher risk of miscarriage (miscarriage), and it can also cause chromosomal problems in the child. Keeping these complications in mind, in women above 50 years of age, the uterus is prepared through medicines and hormonal therapy before IVF.

Doctors say, that at the age of menopause, the risk of chronic diseases like high blood pressure and diabetes is also higher, due to which birth-related problems can also increase. Even after conceiving from a donor egg, pregnancy is still 'high risk'.

What do experts say?
Health experts say a variety of environmental problems along with lifestyle and dietary disturbances have made normal pregnancy quite difficult. The age of 24-28 is considered better for a healthy pregnancy in which the quality of eggs is good and the risk of pregnancy complications is also less. In many countries, where women do not want to conceive at the age of 30-35, they get egg freezing done at an early age, which can be used to conceive later also.
