Science and technology have made human life better and easier, especially in the medical world, they have made a big contribution and due to this, many health-related complications have become easier. But it is said that there are two sides to everything… If seen, technology has also hurt people's health to a great extent. The more people's dependence on technological resources has increased, the more its disadvantages are being seen, such as now let's talk about filtered water.

Generally, people consider it better to consume filtered water to avoid diseases, which is also true to a large extent. But if we look at its other aspect, this same filtered water makes you physically weak and also creates the risk of diseases. In such a situation, as the trend of consuming filtered water is increasing day by day, it becomes important to know and understand how beneficial or harmful the consumption of filtered water can be for health.

In this regard, we talked to Dr. Satish Kumar working at King George Medical University, Lucknow and learned from him about the side effects of filter water consumption.

Our health expert Dr. Satish Kumar says that the water purifying filter was invented for the people of those areas where chlorine and other harmful components are found in large quantities in the water. The amount of chlorine in the natural drinking water found especially in hilly areas is quite high, hence there is a need to filter it and make it drinkable. Therefore, it is okay to use filtered water for the people of hilly areas, but the groundwater found in the plain areas is potable to a great extent and hence there is no need to filter it.

How does filtered water become harmful?

Now let's talk about why there is no need to filter the water found in the plains or why filtered water can be harmful to health. So regarding this, our health expert Dr. Satish says that “RO i.e. reverse osmosis technology is used in the process of filtration, while this technology removes the micronutrients present in the water during the process of purifying the water. That the minerals get taken out, whereas these micronutrients are very important for the body. In such a situation, deficiency of these micronutrients i.e. mineral elements increases the risk of many diseases.

Deficiency of micronutrients increases the risk of these diseases

Before understanding which diseases increase the risk of micronutrient deficiency, you need to know what these micronutrients are. So our health expert Dr. Satish explains that the body requires two types of nutrients... macronutrients and micronutrients. Of these, macronutrients are those nutrients that are required by the body in large quantities, such as proteins, carbohydrates and fats. Micronutrients are those nutrients which are required by our body in very small quantities, but these nutrients are as important for the body as macronutrients.

Macronutrients include vitamins and minerals, which play an important role in the development and other important processes of the body. It is worth noting that while our body is capable of producing some macronutrients on its own, some essential vitamins and minerals need to be taken from outside in the form of diet. Among these, minerals like calcium, magnesium and potassium are found naturally in water, but when we filter water, these minerals come out. In such a situation, these minerals are deficient in the body and their deficiency increases the risk of weakening of bones, heart diseases and diabetes.

Apart from this, the risk of cancer also increases due to consumption of filtered water, because lead is used in the plates of most water purifiers. Whereas lead is very dangerous for health and when you consume water released from such water purifiers daily, a large amount of lead also reaches the body along with the water and due to this, the risk of cancer increases.

Normal tap water is better than filtered water

Dr Satish Kumar says that from a health point of view, normal tap water is better than filtered water. Because it contains essential minerals and nutrients for the body. Yes, you should take care of water cleanliness whether clean water is coming into your tap or not. Nowadays, there are such water purifiers available in the market, which retain the essential minerals in the filtration process. In such a situation, if you have such a water purifier available then you can use that filtered water. But you should also confirm the quantity of minerals present in it.
