Information about Shiva's demon son Andhak is also given in Vaman Purana. According to the story, once Lord Shiva was sitting in meditation in Kashi, then Goddess Parvati came from behind and covered his eyes with her hands. As soon as the goddess did this, darkness engulfed the entire earth, the universe. Then to save the world, Lord Shiva opened his third eye, which again illuminated the whole world.

Andhak originated from the sweat of Goddess Parvati

By doing this, Lord Shiva saved the world from darkness, but the heat generated by the light of his third eye made Mother Parvati sweat. From these drops of sweat, a child was born who looked like a demon. When the goddess asked Bholenath about that child, Lord Shiva told Parvati that he was his son. That child was born due to darkness, so he was named Andhak.

Demon son

According to the belief, Hiranyakashyap worshipped Shiva to get a son, pleased with which Mahadev gifted his son 'Andhak'. Andhak was brought up among demons, due to which he acquired the qualities of demons. Andhak was very strong and powerful, yet he wanted to become even more powerful. For this, he did penance of Brahma ji and got a boon from him that he would die only when he casts an evil eye on his mother.

Lord Shiva had to kill him

Andhak had completely forgotten his biological parents, he was very strong and he emerged as the king of all three worlds. He wanted to marry the most beautiful woman in this universe, when he came to know that Mother Parvati is the most beautiful woman in the universe, he went to her with a marriage proposal. This angered Goddess Parvati and rejected his proposal. When he forcibly started taking her with him, Mother Parvati screamed and hearing her voice, Bholenath came there and killed Andhak. In many stories, Andhak is also described as the son of sage Kashyap and mother Diti, who was raised by Mahadev himself.
