WhatsApp has announced that it is rolling out support for the password-less Passkey feature for all Android users. The new feature from the Meta-owned messaging platform will help Android users save some time and skip two-factor authentication. The company posted on X (formerly Twitter) late Monday night - “Android users can easily and securely log back in with a passkey. Only your face, fingerprint, or PIN unlocks your WhatsApp account.

WhatsApp was testing Passkeys in the beta channel for a long time and now it is being rolled out for Android users with the latest update. According to the company, Android support will roll out in the coming weeks and months. Passkeys can replace traditional passwords with your device's own authentication methods. There is still no information about WhatsApp passkey support on iPhones.

Apple and Google already support passkeys for their users. Google last week encouraged users to remove passwords from their accounts in favor of Passkey. To use Passkeys, you simply use a fingerprint, face scan, or PIN to unlock your device, they're 40 percent faster than passwords, and rely on a type of cryptography that makes them more secure.

"While they're a big step forward, we know it takes time to understand new technologies, so passwords may be in place for a short time," Google said in a statement. Google introduced support for Passkeys earlier this year as a simpler and more secure way to sign in to your accounts online, and it has received a positive response.
