What is multiple myeloma?

Multiple myeloma is a type of blood cancer that affects plasma cells. Plasma cells are a type of white blood cells that work to increase immunity in the body. But when these cells start growing abnormally, they take the form of cancer. Due to this, abnormal protein starts forming in the body, which affects the blood, bones, and other organs.

Symptoms of Multiple Myeloma
This disease can have many symptoms, which emerge gradually. Bone pain, weakness, fatigue, fever, and kidney problems are the main symptoms. Apart from this, calcium levels in the body can increase abnormally, which weakens the bones and there is a risk of breaking. Kidneys can also be damaged because abnormal protein causes problems in purifying the blood.

How effective is the treatment?

A cure for multiple myeloma is possible, but it does not guarantee complete recovery. Chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and stem cell transplants are usually used in the treatment of this disease. Through these treatments, an attempt is made to control the abnormal growth of cells. However, in this process, the patient's immune system may be affected, so caution has to be taken.
