Monkeypox (Mpox) infection has now knocked in India as well. On Sunday (September 8), the first suspected patient of monkeypox was identified in India. According to the information shared by the Union Health Ministry, he had recently traveled to a country suffering from monkeypox infection. At present, he has been isolated in a hospital designated for infection. Another suspected patient was detected on Sunday itself, although his report later came back negative. Given the danger of Mpox, health experts have advised all people to remain cautious.
The Union Health Ministry on Monday confirmed the infection in the suspect person and said that he had recently traveled to a country where there is a severe outbreak of this disease. On this basis, the first case of Mpox in the country has been confirmed as a travel-related infection. The patient is being managed and treated as per the protocol in isolation.
The Health Ministry said, there is no indication of any widespread risk to other people, so do not be afraid or panic. All people just need to be careful about the prevention of infection.
What does the Health Ministry say?
The Health Ministry said the sample report of the person in whom the infection has been identified has found a virus with the Clade-2 strain. This is similar to the 30 cases of approx reported in India since July 2022. It is worth noting that the World Health Organization had declared monkeypox a health emergency given the increasing threat from the Clade-1 strain of ampox. This case is different from that.
At present, the condition of the patient is stable and he does not have any comorbidity.
Many problems can occur due to monkeypox
Since the threat of monkeypox has surfaced in India, the Health Department has been on alert and contact tracing is being done to identify potential sources and assess risks within the country.
Monkeypox is an infectious disease caused by the monkeypox virus. It can cause painful rashes and high fever with enlarged lymph nodes. Its outbreak has been seen mainly in gay, and bisexual people.
Preventive measures are necessary
Recently, the Union Health Ministry said in a post, that apart from sexual contact, the infection of monkeypox can also spread through affected objects, close contact with the infected, and body fluids. Avoid using items used by the infected person such as clothes, sheets, towels, etc. Coming in contact with the body fluids or wounds of the infected person can also cause the risk of spreading the infection. Follow social distancing at the community level.
