Makar Sankranti 2023: The festival of Makar Sankranti will be celebrated on 15 January this year. Whose fame is seen all over India? Along with doing charity on this day, feeding Khichdi also has special significance. Makar Sankranti is also known as Khichdi festival. This is because the rice used in khichdi is considered to be the symbol of the Moon and urad dal is considered to be the symbol of Shani. Vegetables are considered the symbol of Mercury. It is believed that eating this superfood strengthens the position of the planets in the zodiac and also gets rid of many diseases. Khichdi is also considered healthy food. It is prepared by mixing pulses, rice, and many types of vegetables.

Khichdi is an easy recipe made in minutes with just dal and rice. You can use any pulse to make khichdi. So today we will make Moong Dal Khichdi.

Moong Dal Khichdi Recipe

Ingredients-

  • Rice 1 cup,
  • Moong Dal ½ cup,
  • Potato 1 finely chopped,
  • Tomato 1 finely chopped,
  • Carrot ½ cup chopped,
  • Cauliflower ½ cup,
  • Peas ½ cup,
  • Green chili 3 chopped,
  • Ginger paste ½ tsp,
  • Garlic Paste ½ tsp
  • Oil 4 tsp
  • Salt as per taste,
  • Red chilly powder ½ tsp,
  • Turmeric powder ¼ tsp,
  • Coriander powder 1 tsp,
  • Garam masala ¼ tsp,
  • Mustard seeds ¼ tsp,
  • Cumin ¼ tsp,
  • Coriander leaves 2 tsp finely chopped

Method

Take dal and rice in a big vessel. After washing it with clean water, keep it soaked for 20 minutes.

Now put oil in the cooker and let it heat up.

When the oil is hot, add mustard seeds to it. After this add cumin seeds.

When the cumin seeds are lightly fried, then add green chilies, ginger garlic paste, chopped potatoes, tomatoes, cauliflower, peas, and carrots to it.

Fry them for 2 to 3 minutes while stirring with a ladle.

When the vegetables are fried, add salt, red chili, turmeric, coriander powder, and garam masala and let it cook stirring 3 to 4 times.

Now add rice and lentils to it and fry for a while.

Now add 3 to 4 cups of water to it.

Cook till 2 whistles.

Let the pressure of the cooker release on its own.

Moong Dal Masala Khichdi is ready. Pour ghee on top and serve.
