The risk of corona infection continues globally. A new variant of Corona has been detected in the UK including India, about which health experts are alerting. With the transition from new variants of corona, the threat of long covid remains a matter of serious concern for health experts. Post COVID symptoms are being seen in many people even more than a year after getting cured of the infection.
Meanwhile, in recent reports, health experts have alerted about an unexpected symptom of long covid in the infected.
In a study published in The Lancet journal, researchers observed blue discoloration of the feet in patients with chronic COVID. According to the report, an unusual problem of blue feet has been observed in the patient after standing for 10 minutes. Let us understand this problem of post covid.
Blue feet problem in long covid
This study, conducted to understand the side effects of long Covid, mentions the case of a 33-year-old man who developed a condition called acrocyanosis. Acrocyanosis is a condition of pooling of blood in the veins of the legs, due to which the leg turns blue.
The feet started turning red a minute after standing up and became more blue over time, according to the report. After 10 minutes the blue color became more clearly visible. Apart from this, the patient was also informed about the problem of heaviness and itching in the legs.
What do researchers say?
In a study conducted by the University of Leeds in the UK, researchers reported that when a person sits down, the feet return to their original color after two minutes. The study said that the patient told that he started experiencing such problems after the Kovid-19 infection.
Study author Manoj Sivan, associate clinical professor at the university's School of Medicine, says, "On examination of the patient's condition, it was found that he had a problem of acrocyanosis, which probably developed due to Kovid-19."
Long covid can have many side effects
The patient was previously diagnosed with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), a condition characterized by an abnormal increase in heart rate upon standing.
Long Covid has been shown to affect many systems in the body, including the autonomic nervous system that is thought to be responsible for regulating involuntary processes such as heart rate, blood pressure, respiration, digestion, and sexual arousal, says Professor Manoj Sivan She goes.
Know about Acrocyanosis
Acrocyanosis, a type of functional peripheral artery disease, causes a bluish tinge to both hands and/or feet. Initially, acrocyanosis is usually considered a harmless problem in most patients, but it can become a serious problem if it is not taken care of.
Studies are being done to understand why this problem has developed due to corona infection.
