The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) provides accommodation facilities known as retiring rooms at all important railway stations in India. Retiring room facilities are an old feature of the Indian Railways, although disposable travel kits are a new one. This is provided for the safety purposes of the passengers.

Restrooms are available at railway stations in India for passengers to rest and prepare themselves for the journey before and after the train.

The Retiring Room is available in a variety of configurations, including single, double, and dorm rooms with combined AC and non-AC. The first and foremost condition is to have a confirmed ticket before proceeding with the arrangement of the retiring rooms.

Restrooms are available for online and offline reservations only at source and destination stations. Here is the step-by-step process on how to reserve IRCTC retiring room facility.

  • Go to the IRCTC Tourism website and select Retiring Room from the main menu icon.
  • Login to your IRCTC account.
  • Type your PNR number and search.
  • Select the station where you want to halt, then book at the source or book at the destination.
  • Enter finer details like check-in/check-out date, bed type, and room types like ac or non-ac and quota.
  • Now click on Check Availability.
  • Select the room number, slot duration, and ID card type.
  • Proceed after making the payment.

What are the charges for IRCTC retiring room?

If a room is being booked in a single transaction for a period of more than 24 hours in a combination of slots (12+24,24+12 and 24+24), the second slot is considered an extension of the booking of the first slot; And a 25% additional tariff is charged for the second slot.

What is the cancellation procedure in IRCTC Retiring Rooms?

  • Cancellation is accepted up to 48 hours after booking.
  • Cancellation within 48 hours or less will result in a 10% deduction.
  • Cancellation on the day of occupation will result in a 50% deduction.
  • 100% Discount: Cancellation is allowed by room only.

Points to remember before booking IRCTC retiring rooms:

  • Passengers cannot stay for more than 2 days.
  • Booking of rooms while on a waiting list is not allowed.
  • If booking is done online then cancellation can be done online only, the same can be done for offline booking also.
  • If a train is canceled, passengers will get a refund as per the cancellation rules.
  • The minimum permitted reservation period for available rooms and dormitories is 1 hour and the maximum reservation period is 48 hours.
