Agra was the capital of the Mughal Empire
From 1556 to 1648, Agra was the capital of the Mughal Empire during the time of Akbar and Shah Jahan. At that time Agra was a very important city. After the end of Shah Jahan's reign in 1648, Aurangzeb, the sixth Mughal emperor, moved the capital to Delhi.
Agra's Red Fort is a UNESCO site
If you have seen the Taj Mahal of Agra, then surely you must have seen the Red Fort of Agra as well. This Red Fort is located near the gardens of the Taj Mahal. This Mughal monument of the 16th century has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage in 1983 AD. It is considered one of the most important forts in India.
It is said that Shah Jahan used to climb this fort of Agra and gaze at the Taj Mahal from here.
Agra is the main footwear production centre in India.
You may not know, but the city of Agra is the largest shoe manufacturer in India. It contributes about 65 percent of the total domestic demand and 28 percent of India's total footwear exports. The city is the second largest footwear exporter in the world after China.

One of the oldest colleges in India is in Agra
Established in 1850 during the British era, St John's College is a Christian college. It is one of the oldest educational institutions in India. The 172-year-old college is named after John the Apostle, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus.
Yamuna River was called the blue river in Agra
