Twenty cases of Corona sub-variant JN.1 have been reported across the country. Of these, 18 have been identified in Goa, while one each in Kerala and Maharashtra. This information has been given in the data of the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG). INSACOG is a platform established under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to study and monitor the genome sequencing of COVID-19 and the variation of the virus. It was formed in December 2020.


The Center asked us to be cautious
The Union Health Ministry has asked states and union territories to remain vigilant amid the detection of sub-variant JN.1. Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Wednesday reviewed the preparedness of health facilities across the country. He stressed being cautious about the emerging sub-variants of coronavirus.

614 cases reported in one day
According to the data updated by the Health Ministry on Wednesday, 614 new cases of coronavirus infection have been reported in India in one day. This is the highest since May 21. At the same time, active cases have increased to 2,311.

What WHO said on JN.1
Given the rapidly increasing spread of JN.1, the World Health Organization (WHO) has classified it as a separate variant. However, the world health body has said it poses a 'low' threat to global public health.

JN.1 sub-variant spreading rapidly
The world health body said on Tuesday that the JN.1 variant was previously classified as a variant (VoI) as part of the BA.2.86 sub-variant. However, cases of JN.1 have been reported in several countries in recent weeks. Its spread has increased rapidly globally.
