Apart from eating biryani in restaurants or hotels, people also make biryani at home. If you are making biryani in a handi at home and the smell of spices is not going away from the handi after making it, then adopt these methods.
After making biryani in a clay pot, if the aroma of spices remains in it, then you can try some home remedies to clean it. While cleaning the clay pot, we should take some precautions so that its natural properties and aroma remain intact. By using these methods, you can completely remove the smell of biryani spices from your clay pot, which will make the pot fresh and clean for reuse.
Follow these methods to remove the smell of biryani masala from clay pot
1. Warm water and vinegar:
Method: Fill the handi with warm water and add 2-3 teaspoons of white vinegar to it. Leave it for 15-20 minutes. After that clean the handi gently using a soft brush or sponge.
Vinegar is effective in removing the smell of spices and it cleans without harming the surface of the clay.
2. Baking Soda and Lemon:
Method: Sprinkle baking soda on the surface of the handi and then take half a lemon and rub it on the inside surface of the handi. Leave it for 15 minutes and then wash it with warm water.
The mixture of baking soda and lemon acts as a natural cleaner and completely removes the smell of spices from the handi.
3. Rice Water (Maand):
Method: If there is some water left while cooking rice, then pour that water in a pot and leave it for 30 minutes. After this, wash the pot with clean water.
Rice water is a natural cleaner that helps remove the smell and oil of the spices from the clay pot.
4. Ash and coconut fibre:
Method: If you have coconut coir and wood ash, rub it inside the handi and then wash it with clean water.
Advantage: This method is traditional and is considered ideal for cleaning earthen pots, as it prevents scratching the surface of the handi.
5. Drying in the sun:
Method: After cleaning the handi, dry it in bright sunlight. The smell of the spices present in the handi completely disappears due to sunlight.
Benefit: The heat of the sun and the ultraviolet rays naturally eliminate the odor of the spices in the handi.
6. Use of Clay Powder:
Method: After cleaning the handi, add clay powder into it and mix it with water and leave it for 30 minutes, then wash it.
Benefit: This method helps in removing the smell from the handi and makes it ready for use again.
