How to save tomatoes from getting spoiled quickly?
1. Freezing Tomatoes
Tomatoes can be kept fresh for a long time by freezing them. This is the easiest way to keep them fresh. You have to cut the tomato in half from the back and remove it from the top. Then boil in water for 10 minutes. When the skin of the tomato becomes loose, peel it and cool it. Then you can cut them or make puree as well. After this, store them in an airtight container in the freezer. Frozen tomatoes can stay fresh comfortably for weeks. You can use them in soups, stews, sauces etc.
2. Strained Tomatoes
The process which was adopted for frozen tomatoes, the same process has to be adopted for strained tomatoes as well. Cut the tomatoes and boil them in water till they become soft and mushy. Strain the puree to remove the seeds. Then keep tomato juice and pulp in an airtight container and keep it in the fridge.
3. Dried Tomatoes
Tomatoes can be kept fresh for a long time by drying them in the sun. These can be used in salads, pasta or pizza. You have to wash, clean and cut the tomatoes into thin pieces. Then sprinkle sea salt on top of them and let them dry in strong sunlight for at least 1 to 2 weeks. Keep in mind that they have to be kept away from rain and moisture.
4. Fermented Cherry Tomatoes
Fermented cherry tomatoes are full of flavour and easy to make at home. First of all, you have to mix one tablespoon of salt in 2 cups of water. Then put 2 cups of cherry tomatoes in a jar and then pour the salt water mixture over it. To enhance the taste, you can also add garlic buds and basil leaves to it. Leave this mixture like this for a few days, until the colour of the water turns orange.
5. Tomato Powder
To prepare tomato powder, first, wash it. Then start removing the stalks. Cut them as thin as possible. After this, dry it in the sun or bake it in the oven at medium temperature until it becomes crispy. Break the dry pieces into small pieces and grind them very finely in the mixie. Then store it in a glass jar and keep it.
