Breastfeeding provides many benefits for you and your baby. Breast milk fulfils all the nutritional needs of the baby, provides antibodies to protect against infection and prevents problems like allergies, asthma, obesity etc.

It can also reduce stress and elevate mood. But breastfeeding is not always easy and producing enough breast milk is one of the issues that plague most new moms. If this problem is troubling you too, then know about natural foods that increase breast milk.

Nutritionist Manoli Mehta ji is giving us information about these foods. He says, 'After delivery, many women feel that there is less amount of milk in their breast without any reason. Here is some galactose (milk boosters) which help in increasing breast milk naturally-

1. Ragi

Ragi is rich in calcium and vitamin D. It helps in maintaining bone health. Ragi improves the haemoglobin level of a breastfeeding mother. It increases breast milk with amino acids, calcium and iron.

It contains a lot of dietary fibre which helps in digestion. It also contains tryptophan, an amino acid that helps reduce your appetite.

2. Sesame seeds

They are rich in calcium, minerals and omega-6 fatty acids which increase milk production in a breastfeeding or nursing mother.

3. Asparagus

Hormonal fluctuations are seen after delivery, especially during breastfeeding. Asparagus can help bring hormones back into balance. It helps in reducing the stress of increasing breast milk by increasing the prolactin level.

4. Fennel

Fennel helps in increasing breastfeeding and keeping digestion healthy. Fennel contains phytoestrogens, which are estrogen-like hormones that are produced naturally by the human body.

5. Fenugreek Seeds

It contains phytoestrogen, which is similar to the female hormone estrogen and stimulates the growth of breast milk ducts. Fenugreek also contains an element called diosgenin which increases milk flow in breastfeeding women.

6. Gond

Gond keladdus are milk boosters for the new mother. These are made from a nutritious mix of desi ghee, sugar, raisins and nuts, which provide the necessary calories to provide the right nutrients to a breastfeeding mother. They also help in balancing hormones.
