Ingredients:

  • 1 cup dried chickpeas, soaked overnight
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 green chili, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • 3 tablespoons oil
  • Water, as needed

Instructions:

  1. Drain and rinse the soaked chickpeas. Add them to a pressure cooker or a pot with enough water to cover them by an inch. Pressure cook for 2-3 whistles or cook on low heat for 45-50 minutes until they are soft.
  2. In a pan, heat oil over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  3. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  4. Add ginger, garlic, and green chili and sauté for 1-2 minutes.
  5. Add chopped tomatoes and sauté until they turn mushy.
  6. Add coriander powder, garam masala, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes until the masala is fragrant and the oil starts to separate.
  7. Add cooked chickpeas and mix well. Add water as needed to adjust the consistency.
  8. Cover and cook for 10-15 minutes on low heat, stirring occasionally.
  9. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with rice, naan, or bhatura.
