Today the world has become modern, any change happening in the body is immediately detected by machines. But several hundred years ago, when science was not so modern, there were no machines to examine the body, then how was it known about them? Especially when it comes to pregnancy tests, then the matter becomes even more serious. Today you have many such kits which tell in a few minutes whether you are pregnant or not, but a few hundred years ago there was no such facility. If you hear about the method by which the experts of that time used to test pregnancy, you will be surprised.
Wheat and Barley Test
According to a report published in Mental Floss, wheat and barley were of great importance in the methods used for pregnancy tests for women in Egypt around 1350. Actually, with the help of these two things, these people used to find out about the gender of the child as well. That is, with the help of this process, the people of Egypt used to find out whether a pregnant woman has a boy or a girl.
Understand it in simple language that around 1350 BC, when the people of Egypt had to find out about the pregnancy of women, the medical experts there used to ask such women to urinate on barley and wheat seeds. This process used to go on for many days, after that if plants started emerging from wheat seeds, it was believed that a girl would be born, and if a plant came out from barley seeds, it was believed that a boy would be born. On the other hand, if no seed germinated even after urinating on these seeds for a few days, then it was assumed that the woman is not pregnant.
Used to test with onion
Like the Egyptians, the Greeks also had some methods with the help of which they used to find out whether their women were pregnant or not. However, their method was completely different and dangerous from the Egyptians. Egyptians used to take an onion to check pregnancy, peel it, and then asked to put it in the vagina of the woman whose pregnancy was to be checked. This onion remains in the vagina overnight and if the smell of onion comes from the woman's mouth on the second day, then it is assumed that the woman is not pregnant if the smell of onion does not come from the mouth on the second day, it means that the woman is pregnant.
When you see the science behind it, you will know why they used to do this. When a woman is pregnant, her uterus gets closed and the smell of onion could not reach her mouth. Whereas, when a woman was not pregnant, her uterus was open, and the smell of onion used to reach the mouth through this. However, all these things are centuries old, and using them today is not free from danger. That's why do not practice these methods even by mistake at your home.
