So many crore people die every year due to eating too much salt?

It is true that it is impossible to separate salt from food. Regarding salt, which is added to almost every food item, the World Health Organization recently admitted that it is acting as a global killer. According to reports, WHO has said that every year about 1.89 million people die due to excessive salt consumption. According to WHO, this habit causes the problem of high blood pressure and we gradually become patients of heart related problems.

People have started consuming excessive salt throughout the day in many ways. Some people add salt to their food and this habit acts as poison for them. In this article, we are going to tell you through experts how the habit of eating too much salt is proving fatal for us. And how can we protect ourselves from this?

What do experts say

Dr. Jugal Kishore Sharma (Director and Professor, Public Health Department, Safdarjung Hospital) says that consumption of sodium increases through excess salt, which affects our blood pressure level. If its intake is not reduced, the risk of heart attack or other heart diseases increases.

WHO has also said that we should consume only 5 grams of salt in a day. Despite this, people consume excessive salt. Experts say that due to this bad habit, the intake of sodium in the body increases which leads to the complaint of high BP. Gradually the situation reaches brain stroke. Dr. Jugal says that people not only eat food but also eat fast food, chips or other things. In this way the intake of salt in the body increases.

Reduce salt intake in this way

-Experts say that we should always eat freshly prepared food. By doing this you will be able to add salt to things as per your convenience. Avoid eating outside because whether it has less or more salt depends on the maker.

-Avoid eating processed foods or pre-packaged items as they contain high levels of sodium. Things like instant noodles, frozen meals are included in the list of processed foods.

-Use spices or herbs because through them you can enhance the taste of food. Some people use extra salt to make food tasty. But by using spices or herbs we can stay away from this bad habit. Garlic, onion, lemon and other herbs can double the taste of your food.
